Tekarma is the latest start up from Alex Kazim, the ex-president of Skype. The basic concept of Tekema is that it is a social community for product information: reviews, specifications, support, and FAQs. It is attempting to put all information on products right at your fingertips! While this idea isn’t new it has never been done truly to this scale with the amount of areas users are able to cover on any given product.
Tekarma is trying to build a true social user site to replace the forums, customer support, and review sites that currently exist. The majority of these sites are unorganized or filled with spam and the goal is to improve upon all of these aspects. Everything is written by the users so they should be written more in the tone that anyone will be able to follow. You are also able to add: products, update the information on the products, add FAQs or guides set if others can edit them or not, and add reviews. Everything about every product can be changed by the community.
While this is a great idea I see three issues that may arise. The first is with the ability for just about everyone to edit anything it could easily cause reviews and information to be skewed. The second would be that as a new site with all of the information being community based it may take some time for the product database to be built up. Finally, some of the search results are hard to organize on a long term basis. While there are not ‘too many’ to sort through at this time it will become a bit more difficult as more products are added.
Special thanks to: Mashable for the beta invite and letting us all know about this great service.
