Happy Star Wars Day – Shirt Edition

May 4 is called Star Wars Day (also sometimes known as Luke Skywalker Day) because of a pun on the similarity between “May the 4th be with you” and “May the Force be with you”, a phrase often spoken in the Star Wars movies.

To celebrate such a fine occasion I decided to make a quick list of 13 of the more interesting original takes on Star Wars in shirt form that are out there. I know I’m missing quite a few but these are the favorites from some of the sites that I frequent!

On Sale For 1 Week – Good Morning Sinners Shirt

Warren Ellis has restarted his weekly T-Shirt of the Week after a small holiday break and has come back with a winner. I really wish he put in the conversation or inspiration for his weekly shirts because I’m sure the back story on this one would bring up a laugh or two.

Offhand, this would be a great name for a morning show on TV or the radio, a website, a book, hell it’s a great name in general. I haven’t decided if I’m picking this one up yet but I know I do have a week to decide if I am.

AKA – I Find The Greatest Things Ever

So Warren Ellis, a comic guru and author, has decided to release a weekly shirt to the public. Yes each of his designs are available for one week only and while one might think I enjoy his second week’s (I Want Human Bacon) over this one- honestly no the first shirt is just a classic.

LOVE means never having to tell the authorities where I buried you. It’s funny, dark, and all around just a great shirt. I couldn’t stop cracking up when I saw this and knew it had to be mine… so it’s sitting in the laungry waiting to be washed prior to it’s first wearing. Thank you Warren Ellis, for greatness in comics, novels, and now shirts.

Zombies Happen

I recently did a post on BuyZombie about Zombies Happen- a clothing line that tells the truth about zombies in a way that you just have to deal with them. Just like Life, Death, the weather, and taxes- Zombies Happen. Being the good sport that they are they offered to send me the above shirt after the praise I laid upon them! (sorry about the stock photo being used I am currently between digital cameras.)

When Free Stuff Goes Wrong!

Recently I won a free shirt from Teenormous. Awesome! Nothing bad with free stuff. But what happens when free isn’t free? The coupon I got didn’t cover the S&H cost of the prize. I wasn’t going to throw a hissy fit about it because what is a bit of s&h? Teenormous though felt that this was wrong. They wanted to make amends. How is a site on shirts going to make amends on a shirt contest where it wasn’t fully free? Why by letting me pick a shirt from one of the other sites involved in the contest!

I was given the option of picking a free shirt from Buzzy Multimedia! While I’m not usually a fan of shirts with just text on them and no graphic (aside from my French Connection shirt that has Lucky Fcuk on the front of it) I did get a kick out of this Good & Evil illusion shirt so went with it right away. I can’t stress enough how great it was that Teenormous took care of me like this. THIS is a company that knows what good PR is and I hope nothing but the best for their site in the future, not everyone would do this or expect there to be much done. Hell I had shrugged it off when I got the e-mail. This just shows how cool they are for taking care of their readers.

Companies That Own Up To Mistakes That Don’t Have To? Winners

Recently I won a contest from Teenormous that allowed me to pick a free shirt from one of the sites that they are associated with. I was e-mailed the coupon code, went to the site, picked a shirt, put in the code, and was ready to go! Well I thought I was until I saw that the coupon didn’t cover S&H. While I know most contests would cover S&H I didn’t think it was a big deal and put the order through. $5 for a shirt is a lot better than $20 so I wasn’t really going to complain.

Teenormous though didn’t feel right about this. They contacted everyone who had picked a shirt through this site and offered us a way to make up for it. While one would think that would just be a S&H coverage they instead offered us a free shirt (with S&H included) from one of the other contest sponsors. So for winning we actually were able to pick 2 shirts instead of 1. THAT is how to have great customer service and get good press at the same time. Thanks Teenormous for taking care of your customers. I was both surprised and impressed with your response to the situation and am overjoyed you went out of your way to take care of your readers. That’s really how to win customer loyalty right there.

I Am A Winner! Yay!

So Teenormous “is the place to find all the latest and coolest t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts and jerseys for sale on the internet.” Recently they ran a contest where you could win a free shirt and guess who won one! Not only do you get to pick the shirt you want but from which store you want to snag a shirt from! I went with T-Shirt Outlet and snagged myself:

There were actually a few shirts that I liked more, about 5 to be exact. They were however all out of stock. Sadness. Still, very awesome to be getting a free House shirt out of a quick Internet contest. Thanks Teenormous!

Social networking can be slightly time consuming, in fact in some instances it could even be thought of as addictive. It has become an ingrained aspect of the social lives of many people across the world. Distance, busy lifestyles, geekiness. All of these are reasons on why it has become so intertwined within lives of so many our society yet none of this really matters since the fact is social networking is here and has no plans to go away. So for everyone who enjoys the current trend (see: way of life) and choose to embrace it fully, Status King has come to your aid. I mentioned Status King recently when I was talking about TWItoShirt the company that makes shirts out of tweets. I get the Twitter crazy. I really do. It’s a way to reach out to friends or an audience. You can socialize with it or keep your readers updated. Its one of many forms to announce to the masses whats going on in your world, real or digital. How far is too far though?

Here’s the thing, do we really need to be able to convert our tweets to shirts? Apparently TWItoShirt thinks so! OK I’ll be honest. I really am just jealous with my past work on shirt printing that I didn’t come up with the idea myself. While cashing in on a social networking site is nothing new the sheer amount of customization you can have on a shirt just from tweets is a great idea and you can’t help but applaud their creativity on making these. Sure it’s been done for Facebook (see: Status King,) it just seems like something would be more embraced by the Twitter and blogging communities.

The tweet that you pick will show up exactly as it would in Twitter with the username, avatar, message, and time of the tweet all printed on the front and available in multiple colors. Great for heading out to any conventions about Twitter, Blogging, SEO, etc!
