The Day That Bachelorship Un-Officially Died

(It’ll officially die at some date next Fall, most likely October.) SURE I may have been living with my girlfriend the past few months but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t still partially cling onto that lifestyle of being lazy and irresponsible for a little longer… last Wednesday night that changed – (dramatic music here) FOREVER! Yes the question has been popped and a yes was delivered as the answer. Leah and I are now engaged. There will be no more living in sin for us. (At least “that” sin… I’m sure we can come up with another kind fo live in.)

It all began with a duck…

Wait a duck? I don’t understand how did it all begin with a duck?! Well anyone who knows Leah and myself know that we both have a rubber duckies collection so I wanted to be semi-original with the whole thing and asked my friend Erin if she knew of anyone who may be able to help me out with a creative duck (as she recently did one of her posts on <a href="http://www.buyzombie.com"target="_blank"rel="external"title="Buy Zombie" >Buy Zombie of someone who did custom zombie ducks.) Apparently said person didn’t only make zombie ducks as Michelle of Only Ducks also does any kind of custom ducks. So wanting to run with the collections we started independently of one another that have kind of followed us into our house – why not have a chef duck made? The perfect kind of duck to follow Leah’s passion!

Michelle went above and beyond the look of what I wanted! My only request she couldn’t fill was having a small cupcake mounted to the back of the duck to maybe hold a certain shiny something. Well wanting to make sure I was happy she came up with a cupcake that COULD take care of what I was looking for…

…wait.. did you say a cupcake?…

Yes that’s right I wanted a cupcake to be the holder of said shiny object. Leah not only loves cupcakes but loves to make creative ones. So what kind of a cupcake did Michelle end up providing for me? How about an AWESOME one?

Yes this was the cupcake to rule them all! Wait.. that was a ring. We’ll get to that later. But how could I provide a cupcake such as this in surprise? I needed some way to sneak it into Leah’s hand that would make it the very last thing she would be expecting. But how could I do it? Well what about in a box of actual cupcakes? So I had to make a little order for something…. more

Yes I ordered 12 cupcakes from more and had it delivered to work during my shift. (Yes my fellow employees I didn’t want to tell you what it was for. I had a busy enough time getting it prepped for the night. By that I of course I meant eating 2 cupcakes AND making sure there was room for the ducky AND a certain cupcake.

Within the cupcake was of course a shiny object that she was sure to love. After the whole going down on one knee requirement this was slipped on and she said yes. It only took us “12 years” to figure it out right? So what did the one ring to rule them all end up looking like?

AKA – I Find The Greatest Things Ever

So Warren Ellis, a comic guru and author, has decided to release a weekly shirt to the public. Yes each of his designs are available for one week only and while one might think I enjoy his second week’s (I Want Human Bacon) over this one- honestly no the first shirt is just a classic.

LOVE means never having to tell the authorities where I buried you. It’s funny, dark, and all around just a great shirt. I couldn’t stop cracking up when I saw this and knew it had to be mine… so it’s sitting in the laungry waiting to be washed prior to it’s first wearing. Thank you Warren Ellis, for greatness in comics, novels, and now shirts.

Just as a heads up, I’m not currently in or out of love so this isn’t directed at anyone or anything. I just stumbled across it while trying to decide on what to post about (yes I know I’ve been lazy.) I find it to be really quite amazing that one of my favorite authors can so completely share ONE of my views on Love. (Anyone who knows me knows all too well this isn’t my only view on love *laughs*)

Have you ever been in love?
Horrible, isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens your heart and it means someone can get inside you and mess you up.
You build up all these defenses. You build up this whole armor, for years, so nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life. You give them a piece of you. They don’t ask for it. They do something dumb one day like kiss you, or smile at you, and then your life isn’t your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so a simple phrase like ‘Maybe we should just be friends’ or ‘How very perceptive’ turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart.
It hurts.
Not just in the imagination.
Not just in the mind.
It’s a soul-hurt, a body-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain.
Nothing should be able to do that. Especially not love. I hate love.

-Neil Gaiman
