CHICAGO, IL – July 5th, 2010 – Since its debut in October of 2008, Horror Society Film Festival has quickly become one of the best events of its kind in the City of Chicago to see top-notch independent horror movies. We have screened over 60 indie horror films from all over the world and some classic horror films including: Return of the Living Dead, The Fog, Night of the Demons, Silent Night Deadly Night, and more. Every 3 months in the city of Chicago, horror fans and filmmakers look forward to the next themed film festival.

We are taking the summer off to give you the best film festival Chicago will see in the best month for Horror… October… at the one of the best theaters in the city… Portage Theater!

With events like Women of Horror, Zombie Outbreak and Summer Slaughter we screen themed horror movies for each event guaranteed to give you nightmares, but this time we are throwing out the rules and themes to give you the best all-around horror films. Horror Society Film Festival will showcase the very best independent horror films from across the world. We are looking for cutting-edge films that represent the new genre of horror. We are going to celebrate both the horror classics we grew up with and the original ideas of indie horror.

With that said, we are accepting film submissions from horror filmmakers! This is your chance to get your film screened in Chicago along side with some great classics and in front of an audience that will appreciate it. Submission forms are available at http://www.horrorsociety.com/HSFF_Entry.pdf

May 1st In Chicago Means Horror – Women Of Horror 2

Women Of Horror 2 Information

My friends over at Horror Society are throwing another movie festival for everyone to enjoy. This one is an added bonus for a few reasons! First off it is screening a great zombie film, Alice Jacobs Is Dead, whose director I’ve spoken with quite a few times and secondly they are throwing a benefit for ‘Kreepylady’ Kristin who is one of the nicest and more outgoing contributors to the Chicago horror scene whose had some major financial setbacks during the past year.

So if you want to check out some great horror films, support Chicago horror, or support someone down on their luck this is an all around win to attend. Did I mention that the focus is the women involved in horror? Each of these films was either written, directed, or primarily stars women.

With each festival we try to bring a new and different theme into the movie theater, and once again it’s Lady’s Night!

Horror Society will feature films directed, produced, or written by women.

Saturday MAY 1st
5pm to 2am
Portage Theater
4050 N. Milwaukee Ave
Chicago, IL 60641

ONLY $12 for over 8 hours of BLOODY GOOD FUN! Online Tickets coming soon!!

Our goal for this festival is to show the female side of the horror genre in a way that most of the horror fans are not familiar with. Many studios and companies need to stay away from this point of view because it does not attract the audience they are looking for. To us that is a shame. There are so many female directors doing indie horror now without the recognition they need and deserve. This is our chance to show those women that are making these types of films.

KREEPYLADY KRISTIN SILENT AUCTION AND RAFFLE:

Last year we did a raffle for The Lynn Sage Foundation of Chicago. We ended up raising a lot of money for the organization, and we are planning something else for this one. This year we are doing a raffle and silent auction for our good friend Kreepylady Kristin. She recently came upon some real rough times, losing her job, massive amounts of surgery from a life threatening condition, and now racked up a HUGE amount of medical bills. Without her insurance, (the company she worked for over 9 years let her go), she is facing a huge uphill battle and struggling to pay off those bills. She has been through months of medical rehab and we are planning on helping her out! She has played a huge role in the Chicago Horror Community and with Horror Society as well, so we have gathered up some great items for the raffle and auction. All proceeds of this raffle and auction will be going directly to her medical bills.

You horror freaks are going to love some of the products we have for you to bid on, and this will be a great help to her and her family as well.

More info on Kristin here…. http://www.horrorsociety.com/PDF/benifit.pdf

    Holiday Of Horrors Trailer

Mashup Trailer For Holiday Of Horrors

As I mentioned last week I’m going to Horror Society’s Holiday of Horrors. as much fun as just knowing that is, wouldn’t it be better if you could see a fun little trailer mashup of the movies that will be playing? Of course it will! December 12th will be a good day.

Where Am I Going To Be On Dec 12th?

    holiday-of-horrors

    Horror Society’s Holiday Of Horrors

So far there are only 4 confirmed movies and not much on the guests or vendors for Horror Society‘s Holiday of Horrors. However with the horror enthusiast crowd that WILL be there and these choice holiday horror flicks, yes I’ll be there.

4 classic films for the holiday season!

    Silent Night, Bloody Night
Released in 1980 and once again we have an unstable main character who puts on the red suit and beard and gives the naughty what they deserve-and we’re not talking about lumps of coal. Arguably the best of the “Christmas Killer” movies, Christmas Evil should not be missed. This rare screening features a 35mm print from the personal collection of the film’s director.

    Christmas Evil
Caused a firestorm of controversy upon its release in 1984. The plot concerns a deranged young man who dresses as Santa one Christmas Eve and punishes “naughty” individuals, including the obligatory group of promiscuous teens. Although the film is no more sleazy than the dozens of other slashers prevalent in the early ’80s, Silent Night, Deadly Night outraged many who felt the demonizing of a beloved childhood icon was just going too far. Critics lambasted the movie while protesters showed up at local movie theaters to express their disgust. As a result of the controversy, Silent Night, Deadly Night was pulled from theaters, an act which essentially marked the death knell of the slasher film. Which, in retrospect, maybe wasn’t such a bad thing.

    New Year’s Evil
New Year’s Eve is on it’s way and TV’s most famous punk-rock lady icon Diane Sullivan is holding a late hour countdown celebration of music and partying. All is going well until Diane recieves a phone call from a odd sounding stranger announcing on live Television that when New Year’s strikes in each time zone, a ‘Naughty Girl’ will be murdered (punished), and the killer leaves a threat saying she will be the one to die last. The studio crew takes precautions and heighten security, but on the other side of America, a hospital nurse is found brutally butchered. Who could be behind these murders? A crazed fan, a religious psychotic, or perhaps it’s someone much closer to Diane then the police (or audience) could have ever expected.

    Black Santa’s Revenge
Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead, The Devil’s Rejects, From Beyond) stars in this epic short film based on the popular comic book story that appeared in the pages of BadAzz MoFo magazine.

Written, produced and directed by BadAzz MoFo creator David Walker, BLACK SANTA’S REVENGE is a two-fisted tale of yuletide vengeance reminiscent of the classic blaxploitation and revenge films of the 1970s and 80s—think William Lustig’s Vigilante meets Ivan Dixon’s Trouble Man. Adapted from the short comic book story drawn by Rusty Beach and written by Walker, the film version of BSR is filled with all the classic elements of exploitation cinema—graphic violence, gratuitous nudity, and tons of profanity—all crammed into a 20-minute running time.

What am I doing on the 14th? Oh yes, Zombie Outbreak!

    How To Kill… A Day!

Zombie Outbreak is an 8 hour zombie themed movie fest that’s happening on the 14th in Chicago. Here is a mini-trailer that includes clips from some of the movies that’ll be showing! I of course plan to attend. My friends over at Horror Society (disclaimer: who I do occasionally write for) got this going and who am I, a zombie/horror fanatic to not attend? Exactly. There’s no excuse so the day has already been requested off of work and a good time is to be had.
