Dan Zarrella’s ReTweetability Index

Dan Zarrella has created the ReTweetability Index- “Measures and ranks Twitter users based on the infectious power of their tweets.” ReTweetability takes into mind 3 factors on how to calculate a person’s ReTweetability: Followers, Tweeting Volume, and Contagiousness of Content. He has created a formula that will allow for actual amounts of retweets in a way that users with large numbers of followers will not skew the results.

Now I’m not the best at explaining math, specially in the morning when I haven’t had coffee yet, for those who love to understand formulas this one is- “based on the natural logarithm of both the follower and tweets-per-day numbers. This is done to compress the range of variation in those two variables while accounting for the power law shaped graph displayed by the distributions of both.

Why this is important to have?

If you are using Twitter as a means to market products, services, or just get added attention- you need to find the best way to grab the attention of everyone on Twitter. By knowing who is re-tweeted the most you can study which of their messages are given the most attention, how they are phrased, who the target audience is. Yes this is, in it’s most simple form, a tool to help you with marketing.

If you are marketing ANYTHING on Twitter or plan to be (or just like to know who has the most popular content in general or in a specific niche) The ReTweetability Index is a tool you have to make sure to use.
