Engaged!

Maybe it’s from the Wedding shower yesterday, maybe it’s because I’m excited for the wedding in October, maybe it’s because it was on one of my favorite comic book websites – but I decided on a whim to watch this video about a guy proposing to his girlfriend.

It starts slow but the last 20 seconds will give any geek a laugh. Hilarity. Absolute hilarity!

To be honest I wasn’t looking for anything Battlestar Galactica related today. In fact I wasn’t even looking for science fiction. I was sitting at work earlier, trying to find a new shirt to feature on Buy Zombie. Split Reason is a great site and I haven’t checked them out for awhile so I decided to take a gander and see if they had something zombie related. While they did not have something recent they had something that stuck out today. The Starbucks Freshly Ground Cylon shirt!

So I’m sitting here on the couch. Getting ready to rub Leah’s feet and take a break from staring at a computer screen for a few minutes trying to decide what to write that anyone who reads this site may be interested in. Nothing big’s been going on and out of the blue I remembered this shirt. Once it came to mind I knew I had no choice but to show it off since quite a few readers of my site fall into the science fiction fan category. (Horror, Science Fiction, Writing, Social Media, Web apps, Random Humor, Dog Pictures, Stu Stalking. Really aside from those why would you be here?) That being said this is now one of, it not, my favorite BSG shirt out there! Enjoy!

The Progression Of Dune Novels By Internet Troll Faces

I really wish I knew who created this to give them full credit. Dune was a science fiction world that always stood out as one of best fantasy universes created. Frank Herbert made a VERY solid 6 book series (even with the questions left in the 6th one) that everyone I know who enjoys science fiction loved.

When he died we all figured the world was done with but his son found a magical collection of notes for a 7th Dune novel that was never completed. So began his foray into the world of Dune with another author. They worked not on the 7th novel but in fact a slew of prequels which ended up giving us some information, a lot of filler space, and in many cases making absolutely no sense.

Finally after swallowing all of that the 7th book came out and… and… it was horrible. Painfully horrible. The entire plot didn’t work. Unless Frank went senile while writing this I’m pretty sure it was pieces together from an all night drinking and drug abusing binge by the two ‘authors‘ (it hurts to type that after what they’ve done.)

But wait.. there’s more! Not only did they piss on the legacy that was Dune but they decided to add in even more filler books. More books IN BETWEEN the novels that Frank Herbert created. I haven’t read them. I don’t think I will. I don’t think I can stomach to have any more of their novels be opened in front of my eyes. It’s just too painful to even contemplate.

This was once the litany against fear for the Dune universe. Now though? Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death of Dune brought forth by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. The fear won’t be gone until they stop writing and only at that time can we know peace. Though the nightmares of their works will forever be with us.

Admiral Adama On Military Police

In Egypt the government has resorted to using the military to help police the country in order to attempt to relieve the internal strife that they had caused. This is a mistake for so many reasons. This quote though I think sums it up best

There’s a reason we separate military and the police: one fights the enemy of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people.

Battlestar Galactica, entertainment aside, touched on a LOT of political, social, and religious aspects that will allow it to be a show that is relevant for decades to come. With the strife currently going on in Egypt the government has decided to use the military as part of it’s police system. Trying to keep a revolution that they have caused down. This quote quickly and efficiently sums up why this is a bad idea. There is a lot of things going wrong in Egypt right now past just the civil war that is brewing. Primarily is the inactions of the United States. I won’t go overboard on this since no one comes to my blog to read about politics but if our country WANTS a democracy in Egypt as we have stated for the past 4+ presidents then we shouldn’t just be sitting on the sideline and watch as the current leader is trying his damnedest to make sure he stays in power and prevents such a democracy from existing. At any rate. As I said you aren’t hear to read politics so all you have to take away from this is Battlestar Galactica rules. Ahh yea!

An Assortment Of Underachieving At-Ats

I don’t know why but for some reason: maybe it’s the title, maybe it’s the images… all I can do is picture a bunch of AT-AT’s running around to the Benny Hill show theme music. Could be I’ve finally lost it and in my search for humor to not snap while working in a Help Desk that I actually have lost what little was left of my mind. All I know is that today has been an extremely long day and it’s not even 1 yet. Complaining aside I figured Star Wars fans would get a kick out of this one.

The Rebirth of Futurama

I’m not big on posting news on my journal that doesn’t involve my projects but it’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for since they brought back Family Guy… someone to wise up and bring back a REAL cartoon, namely Futurama. Well maybe you haven’t all been waiting for it but I have.

On June 24th, Season 6 of Futurama will officially be coming to Comedy Central with a 2 episode special ‘Rebirth’. While anyone who paid attention with the press that came out around the release of hte feature films knew this was ‘supposed’ to happen we finally have a date of release and a channel!

Apparently Comedy Central Insider will be giving us (see: The Internet) a lot of unique stills until the first episode airs. [via: Wired]

This Makes me feel bad on so many levels

I really wish I could say that this is a major accomplishment for geekdom everywhere. I want to gush at how cool this is and that my inner child is geeking out and loving all 3 of these images. I really wish I could type these things and more and be honest about it. If I really felt that way I could live with the shame of knowing that I would receive endless harassment from both my girlfriend, friends, online friends, and strangers alike and be secure in the fact that it’s still cool dammit! … But really this one makes even me cringe. If it wasn’t Battlestar Galactica related and from another sci-fi franchise I wouldn’t even be posting it. If I wasn’t still addicted to a show that is now long over there would be something else here today. Unfortunately I have to, with shame, show off this latest Battlestar find and hope you cringe with me in the horror of what has been created based off of such an amazing show.

Science Fiction Geek Chart (now with sexual role playing)

A comparison between the different kinds of science fiction geeks that are out there. Going down the list it goes from Moniker, How they like their Science Fiction, Proudest moment, Lamet moment, When they go too far, What to expect if you marry one, How to piss one off, and clearly the most interesting and entertaining of them – sex role playing, I was so entertained by that last line I’d like to throw out a few sex role playing lines for other franchises:

• Battlestar Galactica: There was a lot of news about a sex robot being released earlier this year…
• Dune: I don’t want to think what kind of cosplay is going to be thought up with ‘sand worms’
• Fringe: Well if we go by Walter’s preferences of life there will be a heavy slant towards drug use
• Stargate: Portals where you can go part way through and the rest of you is on the other side? Glory Holes have existed for awhile.

Hey Wednesday is “hump day”.. making fun of the twisted sexual preferences of my fellow geeks is perfectly acceptable! (Wait… that’s “getting over the hump” and not sex? …. meh. My site! I need no excuse to talk about sex!)
