Civin.org: Stu’s Blog

Oh twice as much aint twice as good.. And can’t sustain like a one half could..

So the above picture… Matt at work has been busy with “poo pranks” … (aka drawing random pictures of poo in areas they shouldn’t be..) and putting them on a new guy’s desk on a nearly daily basis.) While I’m not sure how I feel about what this says about Matt’s sanity.. or possible poo fetish.. I do have to say that the Mario Brothers picture he did above.. entertaining! I am of course a sucker for anything Mario related.

Ok so .. maybe I haven’t been too faithful in my daily updates that I was doing so well at for awhile. I would apologize but.. really I’ve just been too busy ;) Here’s a rough recap of what I’ve been up to.

While I’ve watched a lot of movies only one has been new as of late. Jen was out in the city recently to check my new place and brought with her Lars and the Real Girl to watch. While I first was afraid it’d be a standard romcom I have to admit it was entertaining. I’m not sure what it is about the thought of someone carrying a Real Doll around with them everywhere they go and believing it is alive and their girlfriend but the twisted insanity of it all just was very laugh worthy. If your in the mood for some offbeat humor this one is worth checking out as you should get a few laughs from it. Well I did at least.

Call of Duty 4. ’nuff said. The Intermanet did go down one night briefly so for some single player action I put in Call of Duty 2 and.. yea it’s fun. I like the controls and styling of CoD 4 more… however that’s the point of sequels.. They are supposed to get better right?

There has been a ton of work lately. First off my actual job has been kind of busy and I’ll be starting my new schedule starting this week. Thurs/Sun off and working ‘normal’ hours. Yes I’ll be up semi-early (for me) and out of work MUCH earlier. Hello having a social life again. I’m not sure what I feel about my new start time on Saturdays but if it just doesn’t work out I can always look for a new job. (how long have I been saying that now?)

On other news Molly is moving to Chicago this week. I think she was actually supposed to be out tonight but will be in the area starting Monday. How strange will it be that the cousin I talk to the most will actually live near me now.

More updates soon.. promise!

Long before these crowded streets here stood my dreaming tree…

A LOT of project information will be going up soon as well as other misc.. well.. things.. more on that when it happens! I hate to give promises on anything that ends up not coming through. Though I’m pretty sure as anyone has noticed there’s already been a couple big changes this year ;)

Most of my day off yesterday was spent looking up a few ideas for site building on the fun filled intermanet that you are currently reading. Following that was more of the same on relaxing in CoD 4 as well as hanging out with Neil and spending too much money on groceries. Damn Chicago sales tax ;)

On a side note.. Apparently there was an Earthquake this morning / last night. Which would explain why I felt a strange vibration somewhere between 4 and 5am as I was getting ready to close my eyes and pass out. Strange… and here I thought I was delirious from the lack of sleep!

Fun filled random Haiku time!

“just a small warning
i will kill you tomorrow
with a rusty spork”

That’s what happens when I get bored at work and want to make my fellow co-workers think that I’m not quite sane. *nods* That’s it.

Lying face up on the floor of my vessel.. I marvel at the stars

Yes Bender is making an appearance.. it’s that time again! Time for NEWS! Big news at that! Big news which makes me officially broke unlike how I’ve just been acting as of late since prior my money was only going to be tied up.. now it is 100% gone. Score. So… the big news? I now officially own land. (At one point in time this would mean I could only just now.. finally… legally.. vote!) On top of the land I also own a condo. How strange is that? The majority of the day was spent on paperwork for the purchase and getting the last of it ready for the renter I have setup for it.

*whimpers while thinking of bank account.* Past that I went home and straight to Call of Duty 4 as I needed a nice break from actually being busy and doing manual labor for the majority of the bank. 1/2 of what will probably be the big things of the year are now officially done.

Curiosity, Kitten, Doesn’t have to mean you’re on your own

Layer Cake has just jumped to one of my favorite movies. From what I heard was good to one that was clearly just excellent. I can see why this helped convince them to cast Daniel Craig as the new James Bond. With a very cocky ability to come back from being used and outsmarting everyone in a movie with twist after twist. It was a fun ride that I can’t wait to take again after I buy the movie. The plot, as I said so full of twists it was nuts. It’s rare to have a movie full of twists that actually plays out without getting old, boring, or stopping to fully seem to actually work. The ending also was pure genius. Skip renting and just buy this one.

Now I’m a fan of cheese filled horror movies so maybe I’m giving this movie more credit than it is due… I thought it was enjoyable and from what I can tell that’s not the review most people gave it. You have to give the director credit for the majority of the movie taking place in a parking garage and not getting too boring. Theres an elevator scene thats just wrong (though it was a bit unbelievable) and the entire scene with the dog. Loved it. I hate to say it though but i wish they toned down the violence ‘slightly’. Now.. hear me out on this one. The movie was rated R and did bad even though it was enjoyable. The reason why? It was R and not PG13. The horror movies in this country that are GOOD and R always flop nowadays because of the rating. We need the movies that will sell to be R *sighs* Oh well!

Aside from movies theres been 3 main things occupying my time. Learning a ton more of new web development related.. things… Of course the always present Call of Duty 4… and the latest episode of Battlestar! Score. Still not going out much until next month and money somewhat creeps back into my account. Oh how I hate being broke ;)

Get up, come on get down with the sickness

Yesterday I had a 24 hour bug of some sort. I seriously felt like death and of course being at work made it that much more fun ;) I have to admit that the best part was waking up at home after trying to take a nap covered in sweat. Oh well. I feel 100x better now so yay ;)

What have I been doing since the last update? A lot of web development.. ‘stuff’ for projects in the works. Lots of CoD 4 on the new maps. Trying to not go out to save money since I’m pretty much broke until half way into next month. Well not officially but my moneys all spoken for. Also rewatched a couple movies. Sorry nothing big news wise quite yet ;)

I heard a bang and stars collided

Thursday was the finale of my 4 days off and I spent it vegging. After being busy the first 3 days I felt video games were in order! At night.. well.. Rex has been trying to get me to Sushi X for what seems like a year now and with me a little closer drive wise.. Thursday we were able to make it out there and chow down on quite a bit of sushi. (The Red Dragon has replaced the Dragon Roll as my favorite roll.. mmm.) After I showed him the new place quick.

Friday.. back to work. I have to admit though on the way to work it was quite invigorating to be on Lake Shore within 30 seconds of leaving the garage and on 55 within a minute after that. At any rate the good news was after work. First The Call of Duty 4 map pack was released. After a pain in the ass to get it installed I played for about 5 hours. It really felt like 2-3 max but according to how the timeline went it had to have been right around 5. After that Neil and I watched The Mist and followed it up by all that really mattered.

Season 4, Episode 1, Battlestar Galactica. Holy Frak. The entire episode, from the first scene in the CAG, the return of Starbuck, the transformation of Baltar into a religious figure (guess #1 that I’d like to see: Baltar becomes a huge religious figure ala Jesus and dies to save humanity and is worshipped as a savior. Even with all he’s done he becomes a hero… a great little change at the end would be if he came back as a Cylon….) At any rate I ramble. I know a few readers haven’t seen the show so I won’t go into any details. Just. Holy. Frak. I wish this wasn’t the last season but I know they will end it with a bang.

Today is where your book begins.. The rest is still unwritten

As I was saying earlier I am officially in the city now. Still not an April Fools Joke. I am currently 90% moved in short of figuring out what art I want on the walls. Let me tell you though setting up furniture, while a pain in the ass.. was also very satisfying. Now I know I’m not what anyone I know would call a handyman. Ok everyone I know seems surprised that not only I made my furniture but it’s not falling apart on me (yet.) Trust me I was shocked too.. but you should all know to not count me out on anything if I’m motivated enough for it. So far living in the city is a ‘small’ plus even though it’s only been a few days. I’ve been keeping semi-busy with my days off aside from the furniture and setting things up.

Monday night Neil and I watched Overnight, the documentary on the writer/director of The Boondock Saints that he’s been trying to get me to watch for about a year now. Originally I had no reason to not watch this but Rob hooked me up with a copy about 4 months ago and honestly.. I just haven’t been going through my movies / shows fast enough. I have a stack of about 80 unopened DVD’s ordered from those wonderful Deepdiscount sales that I should really go through. …. Documentary. Yes. The writer/director of The Boondock Saints was basically given every opportunity in the world and this shows how he managed to take a great talent and unlimited possibilities and over the course of his chance blow it all. We all know I can be… an asshole. But I usually am an asshole in a humorous way. This guy was just a straight up prick to both friends and family and if you weren’t in that category it was worse. I was shocked that such a creative genius was such a waste of space. This is THE guide of what NOT to do if you are ever given a chance to fulfill your dreams.

Tuesday was pretty much picking up half of what was left at the ‘rents and having lunch and some drinks with Matt. We chilled at the Louie for awhile. What a horrible way to spend your two days off… sick in bed. At least he can make it to work *cough*inside joke*cough*

Wednesday was back to the ‘burbs to have lunch with my grandparents and pickup the rest of my clothes. Since my cousin Molly is moving to Chicago I am kind of the middleman between all of the family since everyone talks to me the most between grandparents, parents, and cousin. Usually I’m the last to know anything in the family and for once I’m in the foreground. When I got back to the city Neil was home so we ordered some grub, watched Kill Bill, and played massive amounts of CoD 4. His mini-setup for the surround sound in the living room has me thinking about spending money. *twitch* Too much spent already this month with more things I HAVE to buy. Stop. Thinking. Right. Now.

Legos as Art

So Mike Stimpson (some photographer guy..) recreated 9 classic photos in lego format. The above 2 pix in Lego are: Eddie Adams famous Vietnam war photograph and V.J. Day Times Square by Alfred Eisenstaedt. They are my 2 favorites of the series and felt worth viewing if you don’t want to click the link and check the other 7. Though those of you who are uncultured will only recognize 1-2… Ok I’ll be honest I didn’t recognize 3 of them and when I clicked on the actual pictures I didn’t recognize 2 of them… Still.. Good times!

Time to pass out

Sweet home Chicago

So I’m officially in Chicago.. and I realize that I’m posting this on April first but seriously it’s not an April Fools joke *laughs* I’ll type up all of the fun info later on that but I’m very sore from moving stuff all of the last 2 days and putting together my furniture (go go Ikea power!)

Perhaps after the last 2 things are made if I don’t run back to the ‘rents to pick a few things up (so strange to finally not say home even though it always will be.) I’ll do a full on post.
