You only hold me up like this.. ‘Cause you don’t know who I really am
Ok I know it’s been a couple days.. guilty as charged on the laziness factor going on. It really hasn’t helped that my internet connection has been fuzzy so with limited aim / web browsing I wasn’t actually able to do an update yesterday as was planned.. so Thursday I spent my time watching a couple movies while working on my grandfather’s journal (exciting I know!) and helping the ‘rents around the house.
Started off the movie day.. hell the day after I finally got around to crawling out of bed… by watching The Grudge 2. The first half of the movie was enjoyable in the exact same way that The Grudge had it’s good moments. Unfortunately … after that first half is when it started to slip into a downward spiral. Seriously I’m not sure if they switched writers or directors half way through but there was a NOTICABLE change in how the movie played out. You can almost tell the instant that it starts to drop quality wise. The acting and if you can call it development just become painful to watch after an almost enjoyable film. The way the ‘spirit’ starts killing people and the reasoning behind it which is slightly altered from the first movie HURT to watch. It almost feels like they tried to change it from a horror movie to a horror based badly done anime that just didn’t work out. Very not sold on the sequal and understand why no one has liked it *laughs* if they had sticken to how the first movie was done they probably could have at the very least made a decent profit on it.
The second movie of the night was Reign Over Me. HOLY SHIT YOU NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE. Ok.. well maybe not ‘need’ to.. but this has to be my favorite performance by Don Cheadle.. on top of this Adam Sandler and Liv Tyler both have great rolls in the film. Acting bonus that one of my favorite B movie actors Donald Sutherland had a part in it as well even though this was by no means a B movie. Basically Don Cheadle is stuck in a rut in his life and runs into Adam Sandler’s character who has ceased to want to function in the real world with the death of his wife and daughter. It had a serious and casual tone of Crash (shockingly another Cheadle movie) and … If its the type of movie you may like you should pick it up.
Friday wwoorrkk. Yay! Back at work! *sighs* absolutely nothing interesting happened at work. After work I had 2 invites to go out but decided it was in my best interest to stay in as I’ve been a bit low on sleep lately.
Saturday being Saturday I didn’t answer my phone and watched a movie before passing out.. what movie you may ask?
Ok.. Ghost Rider. The movie that EVERYONE I KNOW who has seen it loves to hate. Now heres the thing… the movie itself really wasn’t ‘that’ bad aside from 2 moments. The look on his face as he first turned into Ghost Rider and .. right as the movie was coming to the end I was fully convinced the ‘horror’ of the GR movie was overrated and he had a monologue with the main villian. This monologue RUINED the entire movie with how bad it was. I honestly had no complaints in any way shape or form until that point. (Ok maybe the ‘fight’ with the other main villian was a bit rushed… … ) .. ok so the movie was ok. Not great. Not worth a buy. Maybe worth a rent. That should cover it. It’s a superhero movie so I’m not even going to touch upon the plot. You’ll either see it due to it being a super hero movie or not. Not much to say on it past that

Rise: Blood Hunter… ok.. first off it’s a vampire action flick which generally gives you it’s going to be great or going to be absolutely horrible vibe. Theres very little inbetween grounds for vampire movies. Second off it has Lucy Liu as a vampire and Michael Chiklis as a cop (hello.. Shield)… that as a start alone is a working concept.. both characters should fall fully into the roles. There were maybe 2-3 other characters worth mentioning.. or SHOULD have been if their acting wasn’t completely flat or characters given any interest to them. So Luc Liu.. almost pulled off a vampire but her “coming to terms” with having to kill people for food… sadly not convincing. Chiklis… Now I’m a huge fan of The Shield… and Michael obviously knows how to play a badass cop… so… either the director didn’t want him being Vic or .. I really can’t figure out why he wouldn’t be able to play a cop past the director not wanting him compared to his TV SERIES. *shakes head* The plot wasn’t “bad’ even though they completely skipped out on the old guy who was helping Lucy find the other vampires shes trying to kill. Basically shes a reporter who stumbles onto a real group of vampires and is turned into one who now is lusting for revenge. Vic.. I mean.. Michael is a cop troubled by his daughters murder(see: vampires) and gets involved. Simple. It works. Or at least it should have. Oh it should have *sighs*
Well .. Ok this was obviously the let down of the 2 Grindhouse movies but I of course snagged a copy anyway. I do have to say.. the transition between the 2 sets of girls bring ‘stalked’ in the movie is done 110% better with the cut scene actually in the movie and not taken out as it was originally. The little Kill Bill 2 ringtone stuck in was entertaining though I will admit… However my original thoughts on the movie still stand. It’s not worth a buy. If you aren’t going to buy the collector’s edition two pack that is sure to come out this is at most a rent. It would have to be quite easily my least favorite Tarantino movie. I hope this doesn’t become a trend with his work but with how much I love the rest of the movies he’s done I’m sure this is a one time deal.. hopefully… we’ll see.

So everyone who I know that has seen The Reaping has told me it was a complete and total waste of time. There’s no point in seeing it, bad horror movie, yadda yadda yadda. Don’t go see it. That’s all I heard… so apparently I have bad taste because while it was predictable as all hell it was actually… very entertaining. Hilary Swank should really do a few more horror movies *laughs* sadly with the reviews it got that probably won’t happen. SOOOO. There’s a woman whose profession is a college professor and whose hobby / side job / research is disproving miracles. She gets a call that plagues (as in the 12 biblical ones) are slowly popping up in a town in the middle of nowhere, America. Yes clearly the likely place for such an act of God to occur. They believe it is the coming of the anti-Christ and she gets invited to prove them wrong. The only real problem I found with this movie was the DVD Cover.. this is actually from the Russian release of the film as both American DVD Covers looked like total ass. That’s all. I’d recommend it but I seem to be in the vast minority on this one.
