Do you live? Do you die? Do you bleed? For the fantasy…
So I had my mid-week weekend finally. Good times as always, sleeping in, working out, reading, watching DVD’s, paying bills, playing video games… so what did I do this ‘weekend’?
Well to start with Wed a goody came out on XBLA. Worms.
Mmmm good old worms. Theres nothing quite so satisfying as 4×4 worms in a battle to the death with cutesey high pitched voices and an insanely large arsonal. My favorite has always been the sheep bombs. At any rate I spent the few bucks to purchase it and about 5 hours playing it quiting quite well satisfied, my hunger for worm destruction temporarily saited.
On top of this I was able to watch 3-4 episodes of House as well as on Thursday went out with Rose to see the midnight opening of…. 300!
What can I say about 300 ….. The filming was done beautifully. It was a very subtle change on the colors and shadows for the visuals. It made it look old, epic, and almost out of a memory all at the same time. I fully approve of the style with the way it was filmed. On top of that the character development was, for the Spartans done properly, however I was dissapointed with how they did the Persians, or should I say just the “GodKing” as he was the only character that stuck around long enough to work with. They could have done a bit more with him and I was a bit let down on how much he reminded me of Apophis from the Star Gate series instead of being fully original. Don’t get me wrong I thought Apophis was a great villian… in the series… not fully fitting for the movie. If you’ve seen both you’ll instantly know what I’m talking about. Aside from that the Spartans were all developed properly. The fight scenes were quite amazing, my only complaint about them was the blood. Don’t get me wrong, the blood effects looked good. A lot of splurts done just how you would want in full scale action scenes. However after the first fight I noticed something that started to annoy me the rest of the movie. The blood didn’t stay on the ground. I’m not just talking scene to scene either. It’s very video gameesque seeing blood land on the ground and in a few scenes ‘evaporating’ right as you watch them slaughtering the next warrior before them. In a way I could see it fitting but, when I saw it evaporate on screen I was let down. Seriously though my complaints are minor. The movie is a visual orgy of fighting and special effects for the eyes. Anyone who enjoys a good action movie won’t be dissapointed by the eye candy and plot in store for you… Worth seeing on the big screen? Hell I’m probably going again tonight
Aside from that on Thursday it was standard fair aside from having dinner with Jen. We haven’t hung out in awhile and it was a relaxing change of pace catching up on eachother’s lives. Going to have to make a point to hang out with her a bit more often if possible. I also finished up Dead Witch Walking, one of the books Leah suggested. Not as good as the Anita Blake series but similiar and entertaining, was a nice 1 book change that I needed from the Kerllerman series.
